A must visit!

Breaking away from the usual touristy aesthetic of Mahabalipuram, the seashell museum makes itself a must visit as not only a break-away from the historic temples (if you do get bored of it) but also as a standalone attraction. They offer a combo pack that allows you to visit teh seashell museum, fish museum and Pearl museum combined @Rs. 150. The seashell museum in itself exceeded our expectations and can be fun for children. PS - don't forget to ask the ticket counter for fish food @Rs. 10. They allow you to feed Koi Fishes at a particular free feeding point on the premises.

    One of the Largest Seashell Museum Globally
    Amazing Experience. If you are in Mahabalipuram or are on your road to Pudducherry from Chennai, this is a place not to be missed. The unfortunate part is that they have tried to convert this into an amusement park and hence the few negative reviews. The Shell Museum and the Pearl Museum are amazing. They have a huge variety of shells from all over the world. I guess they have the largest shell collection in the world. They have some of the smallest shells to some gigantic shells. The keeper of this museum is very knowledgeable and talk with him and he will tell you some amazing details. This is actually a collection of one individual who happens to be the nephew of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The Pearl Museum is also very good. Lots of varieties of pearls. The rest of the things there are ok. My wife and I had a great experience.

    World class & must visit
    The Sea Shells museum as well as the others at the site (the Minerals Museum, the Pearl Museum, the Aquarium and Nassa the Dinosaur museum) were all fantastic. Everyone in the group including my niece & nephew who are 10 years to 18 years old as well as the adults (30 to 75 years old) enjoyed the museum. The collection in each museum far exceeded our expectations. The facility, the display and description are world class. It took about 1.5 hours to cover all the museums. Absolutely worth it. Kudos to the founder Mr Raja Mohammad for his vision and keeping it so affordable for everyone that would visit Mahabalipuram. "Most underrated and fascinating collection" - in the words of an 18 years old visiting from California.
