Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station, Alaska, United States

4.5 (148 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #1 in Talkeetna Visitor Centers

Nice place

Not a whole lot do here unless you are climbing. With that said it is still a must see when you are in Talkeetna. The short film on climbing Denali is fascinating! It gave you a great feel for what the climbers see and do and how prepared you MUST be to climb. I would go back again just to see the film! Some interesting phots and info in the station too. the Rangers are very helpful if you have questions about Denali and the area.

    Inspiring quick stop
We are not climbers but it was very interesting to see this Rangers station where potential climbers of Denali have to register. Ask to see the 15 min video on what it's like to climb mt. McKinley. It is so inspiring to see what people endure for the rush of reaching the summit.

    Great Insight On Climbing Denali
Highly recommend making a stop here when visiting Talkeetna. The rangers are all very nice & provide an excellent 20 minute video on what it is like to climb Denali. They also have a beautifully decorated lobby with comfortable chairs as well as an interesting collection of books.
