4.0 (66 reviews) Monday: Spent Ranking #11 in Shilin Speciality Museums

Very informative museum

The museum is composed of a three floors of exhibit hall, an IMAX theater, Cosmic adventure ride and a 3D theater. The three floors of exhibit hall features a lot of interactive displays about astronomy. As of the time of this writing, entrance fee to the exhibit hall is NTD40 for adults, the IMAX theater is NTD100, cosmic adventure NTD70 and 3-D theater is NTD100. These fees are affordable and very much worth of the fun and information you will learn. Special discounts are also available for groups, senior citizens and students. It is a highly recommended place to visit.

Neat place to learn astronomy - Great guided tour
This museum has well designed exhibits, and really explains everything quite nicely in both Chinese and English. You'll learn a lot with a self-guided tour, but we managed to join a docent-led tour for kids, which was really fantastic. The docent had an excellent sense of humor, and that kept the kids super entertained while learning the facts. You can easily spend a couple of hours here, but because the National Taiwan Science Education Center (see my review) is right across the street, I would recommend spending a full day between the two museums to get the most out of it.

Fun museum and great value for money
I was not sure what to expect when visiting here with my five year old son but was pleasantly surprised. The staff were instantly very helpful and welcoming when we arrived. The museum is set over 4 floors and has all aspects of space dealing with space rockets, astronauts, the planets, stars and even how telescopes work so they had some fun mirrors that my son loved. It is all in Mandarin, apart from the titles of exhibits, but that was fine as they were plenty of buttons to push and experiments to try which my son and I enjoyed lots. On the top floor there is a ride where you get into a space capsule and you travel through space to the sun and past the planets and even see aliens. It was great fun and not what I was expecting at all, it was like a ride you would get in a theme park but was educational. This did have an option of English commentary so that was good and the display area once you got off the ride was all written in english. I would definitely go if with kids as they will love the hands on aspect of the museum. There are also imax movies there that are in english throughout the day, due to timing we did not go but I would definitely have gone if it had worked out as there was one on space and another on sharks that my son was keen on. The cost for the museum was about $2 for the both of us and it cost an extra $2 for both of us to go on the space ride on the top floor - so very cheap and you really did get value for money. We both really enjoyed our time there and I would recommend this attraction.
