National Taiwan Science Education Center, Taipei, Taiwan

4.0 (111 reviews) Monday: Spent Ranking #7 in Shilin Speciality Museums

Good science museum

We spent about 3-4 hours visiting the 3rd to 6th floors and we couldn’t visit all we wanted to see. This was covered by the general admission fee. The exhibits were very interesting and fun and it takes a while to properly go through each of them. Great for young children.

    Could've easily been 5 stars
We visited with kids 6, 8, and 10 in tow. The place is huge, and there are prices for general admission (3-6F) as well as special exhibits (basement, 7F). A few extra activities also cost extra. Pros: -good variety of educational exhibits, some of which are more for middle school, even high school. Exhibits include: math, earth, biology (botany, insects, human body), meteorology, geology, physics, astronomy. -inexpensive, 100NT for adults ($3 US), 70 for kids ($2), especially considering you can spend the whole day there. -many interactive exhibits, computer and hands on. Went on a weekday so there was hardly anyone there. Weekend crowds might limit access. -almost everything has English translations, and most of them are done very well. Cons: -old, if they just spend a little money updating and cleaning it up, it would be stellar. Being from Philly area, I would rival it with Franklin Institute- much more dated, but has potential to be better. Along the same line, lots of wasted space within the huge building. -not easy to access. After MRT (about 10 stops with line change from city center), you have to taxi (NT80) or take the shuttle bus for another 5-7 minutes. Probably 15-20 minute walk through busy streets. -general exhibits probably not for the average kids younger than 1st grade, but they do have different classes in the basement that's for them. FYI Food options are not clearly marked. There's a convenience store and Mos Burger (Japan brand) on first floor, and plenty of sitting area on second floor with a coffee shop. There are a couple of restaurant in the basement as well which are in the same building. Must do: -sky bike, costs extra NT100, but Franklin institute was like $25 US! Must be 127 cm in height. -personalized motion photography of running, 5th floor. Free download with smart phone QRS code scanning.

    Overall okay
Appears to be built more for hordes of school classes on field trip rather than families. More interactive exhibits with clear descriptions in English as well would have made the visit more fun.
