Beautiful Chinese Art Works!

This extraordinary collection of historic art treasures, fascinating for its depth and breadth, has miraculously escaped destruction over hundreds of years. Some pieces date back to the tenth century.

    Great art
Spent an entire day at the National Palace Museum. It's my third visit since 1986, and it's the single most important place to visit on a trip to Taiwan provided you enjoy Chinese art. The museum wasn't super crowded when we visited, which was wonderful and allowed for better viewing and lingering over the artworks. My last visit was a disappointment owing to huge tour groups from mainland China. There was no sense of crowd control then and the whole experience was closer to being in a rugby scrum. English explanations are good for the artwork, and getting an audio guide is well worth it. My principal complaint this visit is that there aren't enough paintings on display, and too many rooms were closed (especially on the 1st floor). Another annoyance was the waste of display space with multimedia presentations of the artwork. Only a small fraction of the whole collection is ever on display at one time, and for the life of me I can't figure out why the museum would devote any display space to multimedia displays. That, in my opinion, is better left to being available free online where anyone can see it and it can inform a future visit or general interest. Nonetheless, when in Taipei this is a great museum to visit.

    Great Chinese Artifacts
Great historical artifacts from China. Some very old 3,000 BCE relics and wonderful jade pieces. However, I was not that interested in the calligraphy or porcelain artifacts. We took the metro (red line) and then a bus to get to the museum. The bus stop is right outside the metro station with various museum buses coming every 10 minutes or so.
