A must go museum in Tainan.

Founder of the Chi Mei Group, Mr. Wen-Long Shi, was very fond of his childhood visits to a local museum that he was inspired to build a museum for everyone to enjoy. The museum was first established and housed in the administration building of the Chi Mei Corporation in 1992, relocated to the Tainan Metropolitan Park in 2014, and reopened in 2015. The museum is here so that people of all ages and social backgrounds can have easy access to Western culture and arts without having to travel abroad. The collection at CHIMEI Museum consists mainly of Western art, musical instruments, arms and armour, animal taxidermy and fossils, exhibiting approximately 4000 items, which is about one-third of the complete CHIMEI collection. Founder Shi expressed that, “Good works of art are not to be kept just for oneself to enjoy, but to be shared with the public; and

    Beautiful museum, wonderful Christmas carnival
This was our first stop in our Tainan sojourn. It makes such a wonderful start to the trip! Although described as European, the museum does have extensive Asian collections eg warrior suits, weapons. It was big bright spacious withe extensive parks in front and back. We came on 18/12/22 when the Christmas carnival was launched already, so we paid $300 TWD ppx for the entrance. We were soo happy that we came at the right time, cos we had the best beer fried fisth (only $110 TWD), and the most juicy mouth watering Tandoori chicken cooked on the spot (can't rem exact price, around $200 or 300 TWD)! We subsequently, tried the urn chicken at Guanziling, but it was no match for this tandoori chicken! We sat at the nearby park, under the bright warm sunshine, with a slight winter chill, and a winter gourd tea, trying to keep our chicken from a hungry pup, soaking the carnival atmosphere all around us, it was truly an unforgettable time!

    Nice,educational museum to visit
I enjoyed my visit on 5th of March 2023. The building looks majestic in a huge park that surround it. I didn't have enough time to walk around it unfortunately . My favourite will be the Natural History & Fossils as it's very educational, with stuffed animals like mammoth and modern elephant placed together for comparison. Gave me the idea that these probably let people learn more about animals than those in the zoo. Another favourite is the Fine Arts areas with so many beautiful paintings you forget you're in taiwan. The Arms & Armour area is also interesting for history buffs. There is also Rodin Gallery of sculptures and an area for musical instuments. Overall it is a very good place to go for families.
