A quirky little visit if you are out this way. I did not learn as much as I wanted about the man and had to resort to Wikipedia which then told me he was born in France and not here!

    A tribute to Gardel, or more specifically, his birthplace.
    More about proving Gardel was born in Tacuarembo than anything else. an exhaustive list of documents and explanations are lined up to disprove claims that Gardel was Argentinian or that he was born in Toulouse, France. About half the exhibition is about his birth, 30% about his death, and the rest deals very superficially with his musical career. Probably suitable only for hard-core Tango fans.
