A must see experience
What does an Alpine paradise look like? Probably quite like Matterhorn glacier paradise. The peak with Europe’s highest mountain station soars 3'883 metres above sea level. The peak lift takes you up to the 360º viewing platform. The view from there is like paradise. You can see an incredible 38 four-thousand-metre peaks and 14 glaciers. And a must-see in Zermatt’s glacier paradise: a real glacier palace. Up above, there is a cinema lounge, fine cuisine, superb ski slopes and a little lower, on Trockener Steg or Schwarzsee, hiking and biking trails. And on top of that many unforgettable experiences the whole year round ...

A must see experience
We went up and returned in the cable car. This is a must do experience if you are in Zermatt. We queued a while to buy our tickets, which were very expensive except we had bought a discount voucher for our rail travel which covered the cable car. My wife was a bit uncomfortable at the very top so we didn't stay very long. Unfortunately the top of the Matterhorn was obscured by cloud but everything else was very clear.

Simply Spectacular
It takes three separate cable-cars to get up the 12,700 feet level, but wow it is worth it. The tickets can be a bit pricey, but they are reduced by 50% if you have a Swiss Pass. Try and do this on a clear day if possible. When you arrive at the top you walk through a drilled and blasted tunnel to the area with the restaurant, outside viewing platforms etc. Food costs in the restaurant are a bit high, but when else will you eat at this altitude without being on a plane, even if it’s only a drink and a snack? As well as the amazing views, they have excavated a tunnel into the adjacent glacier and you can walk through and view the ice sculptures - quite something!
