Excellent museum - a must visit In Longyearbyen
We were recommended to visit this museum whilst we were In Longyearbyen and if you are interested in expeditions attempting to reach the North Pole then this is the place to go to. The museum is located behind the University & Svalbard Museum building not far from the town centre. The museum is quite small & is on 2 floors . The museum sets out the details of all the expeditions that attempted to reach the North Pole with contemporary reports, both newspapers & film, together with articles on large kindle like displays. There are also artefacts from many of the expeditions. Although we are planned to spend a short time there, in fact we both found it so interesting ( and my grandson who is 11 up to then appeared to have a limited attention span ) that we spent more than a couple of hours and still felt there was more to see & read about. I was told the museum sells the best coffee in the town but we never got to try that !!!

Info and memorabilia packed museum, friendly staff, worth a visit
Little gem of a museum. It's right behind the Svalbard Museum, and has a plethora of original pieces from the Arctic expeditions and the media coverage they received at the time. It's very informative and nicely curated with great care. The people setting it up love the Arctic and the topic of arctic exploration and the shows. And the woman at the reception is very friendly. Admittedly, there is a lot of information for kids and is not interactive. But it's certainly worth a visit.
