Silent witness of Aceh tsunami

There are some silent witnesses of the Aceh tsunami 26 December 2004, and this place is one of the most amazing. A large floating power plant was washed away by the tsunami from the seaside up to 5 KM inland. Government changed this ship become a museum and we can find the story about the ship and the tsunami inside this museum. In the museum complex, there were some remnants of the ruins of houses destroyed by the tsunami.

    Informative
Very good informative museum and memorial to those who perished. Good insight to how a tsunami is formed and the devastating affects when reaching land. Very good animated video of how the ship moved from the harbour to where it now sits. Lots of before and after areal shots can be seen. Well worth a visit

    Worth visiting
This is definitely worth a visit (in contrast to the museum). Bring tissues with you because chances are you will get emotional. Through videos and pictures and maps, you get to understand what happened December 2004, how the tsunami hit Banda Aceh, how this ship/power plant moved inland for about 5 km, what devastating consequences followed. Being on the ship itself that wrought so much destruction and witnessing the surrounding area makes the visit even more intense, Too bad displays were not explained in English. No entrance fee; WC available outside (did not visit).
