Local Market of Palembang
This market is located in Jalan Sudirman the heart of Palembang City. I used to accompany my wife shopped at this market, when we lived in Palambang more than 20 years ago. This local market sells variety of goods for making food and for household consumption: rice, fishes, meat, poultry, vegetable and fruits. The market was quite big and colorful. I recommend this market for those who like locals.

Art Deco Market in Palembang
Pasar Cinde was built in 1933 and is one of the most important Art Deco buildings in Palembang. It features round windows making it a part of the steam-liner school of Art Deco. The exterior is noteworthy for its geometric lines and the spacious interior has long, elegant columns that open like flower blossoms at the top. It is run down now but it is a fine example of Tropical Art Deco, which will appeal to the architecture lover. Apart from that, it is a good place to see a traditional market in the centre of town and it is also a good to try some local snacks. Hopefully the proposed development plans will not mean it is gutted.

Pasar Cinde is under renovation and it is a bit messy to walk around.
Sells mainly local groceries, fruits and local delicacies such as all kinds of fish crackers. If you are looking for lempuk (made from durian and sugar) it is available here. Our trip to Palembang has become an interesting one with the help of this driver that we accidenly found and hired. From day 1 until Day 5 he took us round Palembang in his 5 seater sedan with very cheap payment. Pak Rosdiyanto (the driver) can be reached at +62813 6948 1050.
