Not very well managed
The Museum is not well managed. Most of the artifacts are badly maintained. However, it is a great place to learn about Minangkabau history.

Needs imagination and finishing
Thw building itself is beautiful. The museum gives a broad history of the region and Minangkabau people. There are signs in English. The info about the ancient remains in the area are interesting and they have some nice daggers and costumes. There is quite an intriguing mini-museum to Rendang curry but sadly all he signs in there are in Indonesian. Otherwise the curating is just a bit basic. I went during the Covid outbreak so I know this might not be representative but a number of cases are empty.

Interesting, but bit run down
I really wanted visit this place and I went there early in the morning. The place was not crowded and I could take my own time to see the collections. They exhibit Minang tradiotions as well as small collections from other parts of Indonesia. They also display the panels of 2009 earthquake photos, which reminds me of sad side of history. Overall, the place is very interesting and the museum should be one of the main attractions here, but it is quite run down with broken lighting and empty cases. Better refurblish.
