Muaro Jambi Temple Complex, Sumatra, Indonesia

4.0 (138 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Jambi Province Ancient Ruins

Historical and bicycle destination.

It is a temple that shows us the design trend complex and environment from its time. We realised that one building was for educational purpose. Now Candi Muaro Jambi is also used to enjoy bicycling especially on holiday or special events. Beside all, various plants and flowers are there.

    Sumatra's Greatest Archaeological Site
Java is well-known for its temples, but Sumatra much less so. It does, however, have a number of archaeological sites from early Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms. While the architecture of these sites is nowhere near as great as that found in Central or East Java, the history is intriguing and you get the added satisfaction of knowing that few other foreigners have experienced these places. The very best of Sumatra's temple sites is undoubtedly Muaro (Muara) Jambi, situated 26 kms from the provincial capital of Jambi. The site has been restored and even visited by SBY, the Indonesian President, in recent years. Nonetheless, it still retains its jungle setting; we saw monkeys and snakes during our sojourn. We hope that they don't remove too much of the jungle here, because it is the closeness of nature which makes this site special. The temples are attractive but simple; the real charm is the combination of nature and civilization.
