Lumbini Natural Park, Sumatra, Indonesia

Same as Shwedagon but different

Apparently this Buddhist Temple is supposed to be an exact replica of the one in Yangon (which we have also visited) . It certainly is similar, but just the building itself as the one in Yangon has lots of little buildings around it. It is certainly interesting to visit but there was not a Buddhist in sight, even the guy manning the desk as you enter. Many locals from Medan and Jakarta visit the place but many take the opportunity of wearing Korean, Japanese or other national dresses. There are many stalls offering these clothes for a modest amount. There is a well maintained garden around the building with many flowers and plants.

An extraordinary sight of a Buddhst Temple
A very nice temple with lots of space inside. Not the best of roads from the main road. If going to Berastagi this is worth a visit as it is on the way.

Good looking pagoda and nice park
Lumbini Natural Park (id: "Taman Alam Lumbini") is located at Berastagi, North Sumatra; website http://www.tamanalamlumbini.org. At this place we can see two things Buddhist temple (with its tall pagoda) and the park. The temple and park did not advertise them self nor taking entrance fee from people, but the place is really taken care by the temple management as it seem. However you can donate your money to the box inside the temple. Everyone is welcome to enter the temple to pray or just taking photograph. The pagoda it self is a replica of the golden temple of Shwedagon (Myanmar); however it is not as big as the original. The park beside the temple is look nice (man made) and further walk away across the bridge you can walk down to the natural forest. I just regret that I don't have time to explore it. in short, the golden pagoda, the park and the fresh cool air in Berastagi is a good combination for enjoyable short visit (1-3 hours).
