    Beautiful Lake, beautiful people
One can reach this place via Banda Aceh or Medan. I have brought my bicycle from Medan to Kutacane located in Aceh Tenggara and then cycled to Blangkejeren before reaching Takengon where Danau Lut Tawar located. The meaning of the name is 'fresh water sea'. The majority of the people is from Gayo ethinics. They are friendly and kind altough they can't speak English. Cycling around the island was fantastic. I love seeing the paddy field with a mountain as a backdrop. One should try their 'ikan bakar', a barberqued fish and lobster mee which is simply delicious and cheap! Try to visit this place in August where you might have a chance to watch the traditional horse race and a traditional dance call 'saman'. This lake actually located in Gayo Highland with pine jungle. To get the best of your visit, you should extend it to Gayo Lues. This place is untouched and the view is awesome. If you love to cycle on the highland this stretch is a must. Using phone i can't upload photos here. I am willing to give a link to my blog if you need to see more picture and detail of my cycling trip here.
