Excellent option

One of Brazil’s most iconic landmarks and a symbol of Rio de Janeiro’s beautiful natural surroundings, Sugarloaf Mountain is a must-see attraction. To reach the mountain's peak, ride aboard the world’s third-oldest cable car, or hike through the Brazilian rainforest if you're up for a challenge. Once at the top of the 1300 feet high mountain, you’ll have panoramic views over the whole city and beyond, as well as a range of restaurants and historical exhibits to explore. Private tours of Sugarloaf Mountain give you a great overview of its geology and history, and are also available as part of full-day tours of the city. – Tripadvisor

Modern cable car with great view over Rio marina
Don't hesitate to try out the cable car on Sugarloaf, it will be a great experience. The ticket price includes not just one trip but it's actually a 2-step trip with 2 cable cars. It first stops halfway for an incredible vista point of Rio marina and parts of the city. The place is extremely well organized, clean, safe and with excellent small shops and coffee shops for those interested. We took the trip in the evening, and seeing all those lights of the city from high up, plus the tens of beautiful boats and yachts in the marina, was a great experience. You can then take the second cable car all the way to the top of Sugarloaf. In the end, the trip back has also 2 steps. Definitely a must try in Rio!

    Amazing experience!!
Based on reviews we visited Sugarloaf to watch the sunset around 5pm on a glorious Sunday. Since it was carnaval time we decided to book the skip the line/VIP tickets from the official website for R$194 each (std ticket price is R$104). There is a 10% discount for tickets bought online. Also they now have a 7 day window from the day selected online to complete your visit. I think this is very helpful because you do want to visit on a clear day. The views are just amazing as everyone mentions. The staff/service was excellent! If you are facing the building, the VIP entrance is on your left. We were taken to a small air conditioned waiting area where there is a clean restroom. We were given a bottle of water each and a wristband so we could skip the line. Since we seemed to be the only ones with those tickets we were the first ones to hop onto the funicular for each leg. Since I am scared of heights I was nervous about the funicular ride but it felt completely safe with amazing views. The ride to the first stop is 3 minutes, so is the ride to the second stop. We visited the cafe on top to watch the sunset, it is a little expensive but totally worth it. I agree with one of the other reviewers, this beat Christ the Redeemer to my surprise.
