    Non-stop Entertainment
I have to say I prefer Impanema to Copa because the water is closer and the footpath is higher over the beach giving you a better view. Most of the action is at the Arproador end with market stalls, food and drink and the outdoor gym. The sunset can be watched from most of the beach and there is also some nice little spots with great views going up the hill at the other end. Of course volley ball is played all along the beach as well.

    Very different to Copacabana Beach
We visited Ipanema Beach at the end of a tour for the day and walked there not knowing what to expect but being told it's worth a look for the sunset. What we expected was a spectacularly sunset, what we weren't prepared for was the magnitude of people there to watch it, apparently this is a daily ritual for many Rio residents and visitors. We arrived about 45 minutes before the sunset and it was already packed, the best view point appeared to be a very large rock overlooking the bay that was already well covered in people. Whilst finding a spot to watch the sunset on the rock, we watched people having lots of fun, music, swimming, dive bombing into the ocean, and working out at the concrete gym. The sunset was stunning but we weren't prepared for the applause as it went down, which again is a common occurrence in Rio. Once the sun set, we made our way to dinner near Ipanema Beach, be prepared to see flamboyancy at its best there.
