    Indescribable view!
Despite the fact this site is a major tourist Mecca, I highly recommend spending time here. The site is very well organized and includes a large pavilion with clean restrooms, a gift shop and snack bar. You can walk 200 steps to the top or take an elevator. It’s an easy walk. Once at the foot of the statue you will be amazed at the breathtaking views. 360 degrees! You see the ocean, bay, lagoon and the city of Rio in all its glory, including the top of Sugarloaf Mt! Truly spectacular and a don’t miss! If you are not with a guide, take time to read up on the statue to better understand what you are looking at. And if time allows, be sure and stop at Parque da Tijuca on the way down.

A must see (but check the weather!)
One can’t visit Rio de Janeiro without a trip to this iconic landmark . Although you can see this huge statue from far, as it dominates the skyline from many places, it is well worth a trip to get a close up look. However, do bear in mind the weather, as on a cloudy day (like the day we visited) visibility can come and go in an instant and the whole statue simply disappears! When we reached the top there was a queue of people waiting to get a good photo in front of the statue, which we dutifully joined – however a lot of people arriving either didn’t bother (or didn’t realise) and just jumped straight in front to click their snaps! We were in no rush and were waiting for clouds to pass anyway so no big deal but I could imagine if it were busier and you were in a hurry that these “queue jumpers” could be annoying (in addition to which they were then getting into other people’s photos!). We visited as part of a private tour which included a stop here, so our guide arranged the tickets and directed us to the bus and also gave us a little bit of background information (why, how and when it was built, how long it took to build, the cost, the casualties etc) but I am sure this information would be readily available anyway. There is a small gift shop/café/rest room at the base before you travel up and, in total, we spent about an hour here (although a lot of that was waiting for the clouds to pass!). Make sure you check what covid restrictions are currently in place (we went mid-April and we had to present our Covid passes and ID).
