Beautiful Monastery
one of the most well known Monastery in Romania. is the oldest Monastery still functional in whole Romania. Due to the fact that originally it was a cave covering this church, in the time of the Second World War here it was hidden the whole gold of the Nation Bank in order not to be stolen by the Germans and later by the Soviets army. They buried in the cave and then cover the entrance with big rocks and hide under the river that passes by. very interesting history lessons. Enjoy !

Worth visiting in winter evening
It was a surreal atmosphere during a December evening with heavy snow all around when we visited. It was foggy, with the smoke coming out of the monastery, then inside the church the lighting was discrete and nuns were roaming around. Very enjoyable.

iWas there, important place in Romanian history
the main turistic place on the road between Baile Herculane and Targu Jiu, it's a must to stop there to enjoy the peace and the history of the place the parking place is big enough to let the car; and it's free, also it's true that nowadays the monastery suffer refurbishing works, so you could see less than you expected (and I think at least till summer 2021 it will be the same), but the museum of the treasury is interesting, also the tracks of Tudor Vladimirescu a must to stop i was surprised to hear a nun who told us that the covid mask is not useful, despite of the fact that is mandatory, from legal point of view; each of us has a limited capacity to understand; but this the reason of only three points of five
