    Quiet place
The history behind Ostrov Monastery is fantastic. During communism the place was lifted after they build the dam next to it. During summer the island it's nice and clean full of flowers ... just go for a walk. The monastery is old and beautifully painted and I do believe one of the first for women . A place to relax and chill.

The first nuns hermitage in Romania as history
The Ostrov Hermitage was built during 1518 - 1522 being a foundation of Neagoe Basarab Prince and of his wife Despina. The name of Ostrov is comming from the place were it is built, an island in Olt River in downtown of Calimanesti resort from Vâlcea County The Ostrov Hermitage is the first monastic place from Romania for nuns. The sacred images are very precious being in custody of National Art Museum of Romania. The landscapes are splendid, the flowers garden is tide and various. A charismatic and spiritual place!
