Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, Florida, United States

4.5 (2.229 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #2 in Southwest Gulf Coast Nature & Wildlife Areas

Fantastic time with nature!

This is a beautiful preserve. It gets busy (we had to come back as we couldn’t get a parking space the first time we went). It costs $1.00 per hour to park (credit cards or bills with no change given) and I would recommend at least 2 hours. Three hours of parking time would be better. There is a boardwalk throughout so it is easy walking, and there are benches periodically to either rest, or sit quietly to allow the wildlife adjust to your presence. They provide paper guides that explain quite a bit about the slough.

Amazing find in such a large city
What I have loved most about my walks along the walkway, is the absence, the absence of bird sounds and nest high up in the tree, no buzz of bee or even mosquitoes around my head, I have seen no bird nests, seen no squirrel’s or a pond full of fish, no sights of raccoon’s or snakes.. each time I have see on comfortably slumbering alligator. The quiet over takes you. The staff say it’s worrisome I’m not seeing the bees which are so important, as well as the dwindling numbers of birds…but it amazing and it’s beautiful, it’s a fantastic walk! Don’t pass up the chance to walk this nature trail. It free, just pay for parking.. don’t skip the actual museum center the people are so knowledgeable and the presentation is amazing.

Beautiful and Accessible walk in nature
Easy to get to. 2.00 parking. Beautiful walk thru a natural preserve on a flat boardwalk with handrail(s) continuously on one or both sides and benches for sitting and observing or just taking a break placed frequently along trail. Went with 3 kids ages 10,12,14 and grandparents in their 70s and everyone enjoyed it. Park volunteers or employees were along the trail giving information on the wildlife. We saw an alligator, turtles, a snake, lizards, a large variety of birds, and fish.
