Malmö-Travemünde-Malmö overnight ferry, very convenient ferry that saves a lot of effort

We used this ferry (overnight on both directions) on our trip to Holland. It starts at 10.00 pm and takes you to the other end at around 8 am the next day. Saves plenty of driving effort and the cost difference is not much (as with this ferry you can avoid the bridge toll / short ferry costs). We had the outside cabin for 4 persons and it was clean, had a large window and comfortable beds. We slept well! Just don't mistake this with a luxury cruise. There is a cafe/bar (on the cheaper side), a restaurant with dinner buffet (and also breakfast, I think), a child play area, a tiny duty free shop and fitness center / sauna. That's all. We will use this ferry service again!

    Malmö - Travemunde night ferry
Convenient service between Malmö - Travemunde. Only recommendable during the night, due to the ferry time (we use the time to sleep instead of drive). It cust off 450 km of our journey and the cost of driving is just slightly more expensive. It's mainly a truck service, but they are OK as passenger ferry as well, if you are prepared for functionality before entertainment. Comfortable beds, good shower. Not super clean. Ferry is a bit run down, they are planned to be replaced in 2021 I believe, which would be great. Onboard food offer is 2/5 stars. Breakfast is OK, if you need your calories. Dinner to be avoided. The bar is a gathering place for truckies. Will however use it again, as it's non pretentious and generally good value for money

    Regular route
My family regularly travel between Sweden and Finland by ferry. We used to prefer Silja lines but since their takeover by Tallink it has become a poorly run shadow of what it used to be. Viking have re invented itself and now delivers excellent service with a very positive attitude even on its older ships. Their newest Viking Grace is by far the best luxury ferry in the Baltic. We also prefer Viking as they allow more dogs on board. Finnlines also have more cabins for dogs and we recently tried their newly renovated service on the Finn Swan from Sweden to Finland. We have not used them for many years when we used to take them from Helsinki to Travemunde in Germany. That journey is over two nights and the cabin was big and food was excellent. The newly renovated service has some way to go to rival its old service and its competitors. The crew seemed to have a dispute going on and were sullen and unfriendly ina lol departments. The cabin was fine but the thing that lets them down the most is the catering. The food served on board is included n the price ( the tickets cost more then its competitors because of this) but if the quality was OK then it would be a good deal. Unfortunately the food is of the lowest standard industrial catering. It's aimed at their regular truck driving customers but I am sure they are not happy with it either. Such a shame-it used to be a major feature of the old Finnlines. The newer Grimaldi owners are cutting corners to turn a profit. It's a shortsighted approach to spend so much in a ship renovation and then serve disgusting food and with no flair or dedicated service quality at all.
