Bonk Museum, Southwest Finland, Finland

4.5 (27 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Uusikaupunki Speciality Museums

Most interesting experience in UKI

Bonk museum consists of just two rooms in main building and one barn for children workshop during summer, and packed of items with an unbelivable story about incredible machines. It's like walking in 1930's but looking ahead in future. Opened daily from 10-18, it deserve seening! Learned also new things, which today we take it for granted, but back in those days were only dreams.

Taking over the world, one Bonk at a time
The museum celebrates the almost unbelievable saga of the great Pärre Bonk and his descendants. It comes complete with surviving examples of many of the legendary and pioneering devices produced during the long history of the multiglobal Bonk Business enterprise. Bonk's fortunes began, of course, with the humble Baltic anchovy and with its giant Peruvian cousin, and its restorative Garum relish and anchovy-based lubricating oils, but the firm then segued into ever more astonishing retrofuturistic products, many of them seen here in the Museum in all their glory, including the Paranormal Cannon, examples of the life-affirming Raba Hiff cosmic therapy range, an early Freakwave Transmuter prototype from the Summer of Love, and even some of Bonk's controversial ADS (Advanced Disinformation Systems) mainframe units. Young, enthusiastic guides, clearly worshipping at the altar of the Bonk name and legacy, pass on the secrets of the pataphysical, post-modernist manufacturing powerhouse, and the walls are covered with fascinating photographs and press clippings from the Bonk Archives and from contemporary magazines. As a Bonk shareholder of many years' standing, and having had the honour to have met some of the last surviving members of the Bonk dynasty, this was for me a pilgrimage of faith, well worth the €8.00 admission for pensioners and students of the absurd.

The most hilarious museum of Finland
The museum gives a guarantee that the exhibited machines have never been functioning. But they might have. For example producing electricity with an anjovis swarm swimming forth and back in a basin. The guide telling stories is as hilarious as the inventions of Mr. Bonk.
