Johanna Oras Art Gallery, Southern Savonia, Finland

A feast for the eyes

We came upon this art gallery while walking in the Punkaharju Resort area. Oras's art is straightforward: attractive, positive and colorful. Nothing abstract, bizarre or weird, just beautiful. It was a pleasure to walk around in the small gallery. The art studio was also open and the artist herself was around. There was no entry fee and no hard sell, just smiles.

Finnish culture through art ... and more!
If you enjoy viewing fine contemporary world-class art work, a visit here should be at the top of your list of things to do when visiting Punkaharju. What appeals most to me about Johanna’s art work is its depth, her skill with a paintbrush, and her brilliant imagination. Looking at each piece takes you on an adventure, to a place you’ve not explored before. It’s not boring in the least; it’s positively thought-provoking. A stroll through Johanna’s gallery is a pleasure for the senses, and absolutely should not be missed. This year Finland is celebrating its 100th year of independence and Johanna has created “Centennial Paintbrush” a special exhibition to pay homage to what being a Finn is all about. Be sure not to miss “This Is Finland,” which features the best looking Moose you’ve ever seen, overseeing a table brimming with Finnish delights. Simply awesome!
