Japanese Peace Pagoda, Southern Province, Sri Lanka

4.5 (917 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Southern Province Points of Interest & Landmarks

Not better name than Peace Pagoda

It’s a great place with peaceful vibrations, beautiful sights on the sea and the bays of the coast, silent and holy. The white pagoda is stunning against the sky and sea colour and Buddha’s story is represented and shortly explained through golden statues displayed around the first floor. Highly recommended. Before arriving private parkings will tell you to leave your motorbike there and pay, but if you ignore them and go ahed till the end of the road, you will be able to park for free.

    A picturesque pagoda
A picturesque pagoda atop a hill just west of Unawatuna. Nothing exceptional just a white stupa, good views and a small temple on site. Very restful peaceful place. Inside the same complex just to the right of the pagoda is the small memorial to lives lost in the 2004 tsunami.
