Radiostacja Gliwice, Southern Poland, Poland

4.5 (206 reviews) Monday: Spent Ranking #1 in Silesia Province Speciality Museums

Venue of the Gleiwitz incident

Arguably the most important monument in Silesia. Nowadays it's the tallest wooden building in Europe, which in itself makes it worth seeing, but in 1939 it was one of the places where WW2 actually started. Amazing history and definitely a must-see if you're in the region.

Fantastic, especially in the night time
Gliwice radiostation is the highest wooden structure in the world (111m.); surrounding area has been renovated lately, so nicely maintained lawns, many benches and WiFi acces make it a perfect spot for a picnic or just a moment of rest. It looks spectacular at the night time, beautifully illuminated from below. Erected before the Second WW, it has an extensive history behind it, so make sure you go there, once in Gliwice.

    History was made there.
Code word is "Canned Goods"! This is where the germans made a false attack. They raided the station, left dead people in polish uniforms, made a anti german radio transmission, and used it as an excuse to invade Poland.
