Tremendous

Recommended to us by a Snorkel Cook Islands guide as a "must see" we stopped in on one blustery afternoon. Well! We spent a fabulous two hours with our museum guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable, and patiently and thoroughly answered every question we could come up with! Politics, culture, education, history, religion, genealogy, applied and practical arts - you name it! The artifacts in the museum are plentiful and fascinating. We could not have been more courteously treated.

Fantastic and well worth the money
Fiona (our guide) was amazing, fun, fantastic and knowledgeable. We've been looking got a place to get a solid understanding of the cultural background of the Island and this delivered in every way. Fiona said at the beginning it takes between one and two hours depending on how many questions you ask, needless to say we asked a lot of questions and we're probably there for much longer than that but I lost track of time. The tour was great but to get the best value out of it you need to be curious and ask away. I thought given the information we got and the amount of time we were there it was underpriced, and so potentially the other reviewers that thought it was expensive just didn't ask enough questions. Fiona has a fantastic knowledge of the palace and the Queen, as well as the cultural and religious background of the island. All fascinating stuff, well worth it.

    Very informative
If you are interested in local history then this is worth a visit and gives you an understanding of the Ariki on Rarotonga and particulary of Pa Ariki of Takitumu. We took the full guided tour and were there for over an hour. At $25 it was probably at the pricy end but there was a cheaper tour for $18 which didnt include the native and medicinal plants and a browse with no tour for $10. In hindsight the $18 tour would suffice, certainly just browsing does not enable you to get an understanding of who the people were and how they connected.
