Tiny but Interesting
Tiny museum but I liked the displays and the fact they are in English. If you are going to the memorial this is a nice stop.

From the old to the modern times - an immersion in history.
The area of Dobrogea where Tulcea is located today is very reach in history - stating from the Stone Age it was inhabited by various people ... tribes of Thracians, Gheti, and Dacians, Scythians from this region waged wars with king Darius the great Persian King - he made an expedition north to these lands around 500 B.C. - Greek colonies were established in this region in the VIIIth century B.C. so he had a good reason for the northern detour. Celts had a citadel in todays Tulcea - Aegyssus was its name ... pity our Romanian history books don't mention much about this tumultuous past of this region (we learn in school : or we learned , that the Gheti and Dacians lived here for centuries , around 84-87 A.D. the Romans attacked the Dacian tribes north of the Danube ... met their bloody end and returned in 101 under the command of king Traian - and eventually forced the Dacian kingdom into submission in 106 , colonized Dacia and stayed until about 273 A.D when they retreaded south of the Danube due to the increasing threats and raids of the migratory tribes abandoning Dacia after more than 150 years of rule ... in a nutshell this is what I learned back in a day - today is obvious that it is a very thin and very tendentious approach to the historical facts ... stull history lesson stops here). So back to the museum ... it covers all the ages from the stone age to the modern times - there are some very interesting items on display and if you have the time I recommend you visit the place ... it is definitely worth the price of the entry ticket - go and enjoy the history lesson , it is indeed captivating!

Excellent, wonderful museum
Could not believe we were the only people visiting this museum on a lovely Saturday. It is an amazing, extremely comprehensive, and clearly set out presentation of the history of the Tulcea region. The English text was very much appreciated.
