Heroes never die!!!

The "Great War" - as WW I is known in the history of mankind - took its share of lives in Romania also - in this area in the mountain passes between the German occupied Transylvania and what was left of the country of Romania there were fierce fights. The fallen soldiers were mainly from the 3rd Alpine Infantry Regiment, the 5th Infantry Division of Buzau and the 34th Infantry Regiment. The monument was erected - the original 1 - between 1936 and 1938 - however in 1975 the monument was relocated due to the building of Gura Siriului dam and it was placed on its current grounds abode DN 10 and above the Siriu Lake. The earthly remains of the unknown soldiers were place in an ossuary that is housed by the small locked chapel the other graves were just moved with the corresponding headstones. In 1996, 2 stone crosses were erected - the one raised for the brave soldiers of the 34th infantry brigade is to be found in one of the pictures attached to this review. The history lesson stops here. The monument nowadays is fairly well maintained - entrance is free of charge and you can park right across DN10 from the entrance. So when you are in the area you can stop for a few minutes and a few pics to the pay some respected to the memory of those fallen in the "Great War".
