    Great little museum
The lighthouse in Sulina was built under the auspices of the European Commission, seven countries including Romania that managed the Danube delta region after Turkish rule ended. (Not to be confused with the current EU institution of the same name.) The museum is small and is run by a local woman who inherited the job from her mother. According to the museum lady, the lighthouse ceased to operate as such in the mid-20th century. In there communist era the outbuildings were rented to families as housing. Since the 1989 revolution, the lighthouse has been administered as a cultural site. It opened as a museum in 1992. The museum entry is 3 lei (USD $0.75). There is one room that has displays about the history of the town as a port and about the lighthouse. All of the displays are in Romanian. The guide did not speak English, but is happy to give a presentation in Romanian if you are interested. The second display room has an exhibit about a famous Romanian music conductor who is from Sulina. From the museum you can also climb the steps to the (non-functioning) lighthouse and see views of the town and the river. A very cute place with a friendly guide. One of the few places in the delta to learn about the history and culture of the region.

A lighthouse in the middle of the city
This was an old lighthouse built when the sea was reaching here. Today the building is an odd landmark in the middle of the city from where one can have a beautiful view. It's like you climb in the tower of a mosque!
