A home war museum

Very interesting home museum with tons of Finnish historyband war memorabilia. The owner gave us a tour and told about the house’s history (the house once has been his home). Lots of interesting details and facts. Highly recommended!

    A national treasure.
Firstly as someone who loves history this was always going to be a winner with me. Especially military history. Before entering you're in for a treat with the exterior. Old artillery on display and the building itself is amazing. So the museum belongs to a lovely man who's had it on his family for generations. The interior is littered with absolute treasures that please any history fan. I found the whole history tour and the stories quite emotional. I have read a lot on the Finnish conflicts during the 20th century so it was great to talk in depth about certain things there. The visit was so so cheap and it deserves so many more visitors. Places like this are extremely rare but extremely valuable to many! I will be back visiting here when in Imatra for sure. Can see from the smile on one of my pics how happy I am!

Private museum in someone's house with fantastic owner
This was a very interesting place. It is a private museum in someone's house. The man's family have been involved in Finnish history- his grandfather served in WWI, his father in WWII. There are many examples in the museum of correspondence between members of his family and people like Mannerheim and Kekkonen. His mother lived alone in the house until she died last year aged 96, now he lives there and shows people round. It is like a time capsule with many things to look at. There are no captions explaining any of the artefacts which is a downside, but he is very hands on and gives you a little tour and explains what all the objects are. He is very friendly, helpful and a font of all finnish history knowledge (and speaks English). It is well worth a visit, it is a real shame there are not more private museums like this, so is very rare in that sense.
