Good view of the river, sad new 'recreational' set-up
The viewpoint over the old Meuse river as such is pleasant and worthwhile a visit. However, the recent 'upgrade' of the area around is less appealing for peace and quiet seekers. The nearby forest has been leveled to make way for a large extra car parking lot. The catering industry has been allowed to expand in order to attract crowds of icecream lovers and the like. It follows a general pattern in the Netherlands to use the increasingly scarce plots of nature for "recreation" which usually means increased access for cars and encouraging consumerism. Even cyclists can not move through the Sunday crowds anymore. Sad.
