Beautiful church

We spent some time exploring the inside of this beautiful church. At the entrance, we were welcomed by an elderly lady who gave us directions and a map of the church. There is also a possibility to go up the tower, but it's paid.

nice little chapel of the Lutheran church
This chapel is in use for religious services on Sundays, but you can also rent the chapel for a concert or other event as long as it is appropriate for the character of the (religious) building. The acoustics are great. It seats about two hundred people. Worth a visit.

A chapel in Dordt center with a sensitive history
During the Middle Ages every care home used to have a chapel or church for the spiritual wellbeing of their clients. In the case of this chapel they were blind people. Their hospice was demolished in the 1600s, but the chapel remained until this day. Nowadays it is the center of the Lutheran community, but the space can also be used for other purposes when they do not infringe upon religious integrity. Note: Lutherans in Dordrecht were permitted to use the building in 1690 after wealthy German merchants residing in the city backed up their claim. Earlier requests were denied! Religious tolerance (only) if economic interests were at stake.
