The Old Lady

Oude Dame (Old Lady) is the nickname for the bridge built over the lock at Strijensas. The dignified bridge dates from 1908 and was recently restored, a job well done. The nearby lock from 1649 is historically more important as it provided access by boat to Strijen 5 km towards the northeast. Though built during her life time, the nickname Oude Dame is not linked with Suze Groeneweg, first female member of the Dutch parliament who was born in Strijensas in 1875.
