    Stone beacon
Dating from 1630, strategically located, at the entry of the Oosterlandse rak, the gateway to the port of Brielle. Visible from the North bank of the Brielle lake and even from the dam between Brielle and Oostvoorne lakes. I imagine the look-outs on ships bound for Brielle coming from the North Sea felt relieved when seeing the beacon. Especially at night when the fire at the top was clearly visible. It confirmed they were on the right track. In 17th century Holland this area of creeks and swamps must have been very tricky to navigate. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00. In winter only on Saturday and Sunday (same hours).
