It'SS RotterDAMN good.

We would strongly recommend visiting the SS Rotterdam and doing both the self guided and guided tours. In particular the guided tour of the engine spaces was excellent, though we think we may got very lucky with our guide who spoke impeccable English, but was also translating into German and had incredible knowledge of the systems below deck. A lot the vessel is open to the public as it now a hotel, but there were guides in a lot of the rooms which you are encouraged to visit who were more than happy to provide insight and overview. Some of the entertainment spaces were very decadent and worth a wander round. The self guided audio tour takes you round a number of spaces and decks, however we felt it lacked direction at times and signage wasn't always clear to ensure you went round in the order expected. Only down side we can think of so that isn't bad going. Don't remember the entrance ticket being overly expensive for the tour and we spent a good few of hours going round.

A blast from the past that will rock anyone's boat.
I was a guest on the ship as it now operates as a hotel. The audio tours are worth doing but the hosts bring the ship to life I spoke to two "crew members" who worked on the ship , when she was in service. Worth an afternoon or longer!.

De Rotterdam - 1960s vintage cruise ship atmosphere
De Rotterdam is a 1960s vessel used as a cruise liner by the Holland America Line until the year 2000. Since 2010, it is located in Rotterdam. Parts of it are used as a hotel, the other parts including two bars and two restaurants, still have more or less the original spirit and design of the 1960s. Visitors can go aborad for free and take a tour on the ship or just have a coffe or a meal. Only the audio-guided tours are charged at a minimum of 10 € per person. There are two bars, both of them in their original design one of which having kind of a ballroom-cafe atmosphere. There are two restaurants, the more expensive one is also still remaining in its original decor. The other one with a more cafeteria-like and laid-back atmosphere including a very pleasant service has been restyled with Eames furniture. Prices are OK compared to the average Dutch restaurant price level. Many parts of the ship can be toured for free.
