Beautiful

The gardens were gorgeous. We were very lucky to see the Amorphophallus titanum, though it wasn't in flower at that point. They had a beautiful sacred lotus that was in flower and the pond with the koi fish in was beautiful. The upper floor of the greenhouse was gorgeous. The giant lillypads were incredible. There were also lots of benches around if you wanted to sit down and listen to nature. I also really enjoyed looking at their carnivorous plant collection.

Fab gardens, well worth a visit.
Fabulous gardens, quite small in size but lots packed into such a compact space, including 3 storey glasshouses and many, many interesting plants. We stopped for a drink in the cafe - coffee was excellent and the hot chocolate also great (hot milk served with chocolate pellets to be melted in - which the kids loved). Nothing in Nethlerlands is busy first thing in the mornings, so if you want peace and quiet then go at opening time (10h). Even as we left after lunch it was still calm and peaceful, albeit with more people.

An Oasis in the Middle of the City
The Hortis Botanicus, which was created in 1638, has the distinction of being one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Comparatively speaking, it is a rather small botanical garden, but packs 4,000 plant species into its gardens and green houses. There is a butterfly house, as well. This is the place to go to get away from the tourist crowd and spend some down time. Yo can bring a picnic lunch or go to its cafe The price for admission is €9.75 for adults, €5.50 for children 5-14, students, Museumkaart is not valid here.
