    Nice collection
We had a lot of free time on one of our days in Sofia, so we ventured out to this museum. It's a bit out of the way from everything else, but I was glad we visited. They have a nice collection of items from ancient times to more modern era. I enjoyed seeing the displays of traditional Bulgarian clothing. Despite it being out of the way, I would still recommend a visit if you enjoy history and seeing "old stuff".

    Amazing building, zealous staff.
This museum houses many beautiful artefacts from Bulgaria's fascinating history, and context is provided by copious written introductions to each section / era. The building itself (late Eastern Bloc brutalist?) is worth a visit in itself, but as it sits at the foot of gorgeous Vitosha mountain it's outside the centre of Sofia. My one negative would be that staff on duty followed my group very closely and stared at us for the duration of our visit. A very uncomfortable experience. Also, the exhibitions were largely silent on Bulgarian involvement in WW2. But this doesn't distract from an interesting museum in a beautiful building.
