Lots of statues!

The Museum of Socialist Art (MSA) opened on September 19th 2011 as part of the structure of the National Museum of Bulgarian Art and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. The museum consists of a sculptural park (7,500 square metres), where 80 works of monumental sculpture are exhibited at present; and an exhibition hall (550 square metres), designed for works of easel art. There is also a video hall, where archival and documentary films related to the socialist era are projected. The souvenir shop offers authentic items, books and postcards as well as contemporary items. The sculptural area will be supplemented and enriched, while the expositions in the interior part will be periodically updated. Thereby, it will be possible to show different perspectives and diverse curatorial interpretations of the Socialist period in Bulgarian fine arts.

    Closed Mon-Wed (except statues)
The museum is only open Thursday to Sunday, from 10h to 18h, as of October 2021. It is still possible to see the statues outside, though. For me that was worth the 1,60lev metro ride. If you have the time, it's a lovely walk back to the center through the park.

    Cool Statues.....that's it
This place is a mixed bag. It's cool to walk around the statue park. It's free and they have some interesting statues. There's not much else to it. They have some videos of very low quality you can pay to watch that shows Communist propaganda. It's fairly cheap, but even at that it's not worth it. They also have an art exhibit that has nothing to do with the Communist period. It's an okay exhibit on it's own but not worth the trek out to the museum or the very cheap price. It's unfortunate cause there is potential to have a very good museum here.
