    what a sight !
Due to own restrictions. could visit only during the day. Was shown the 2m telescope by a well-informed member of staff, who is currently in the process of a PhD. And, as Websites comment, the surrounding area is spectacular. There is a large hotel Onsite, which I would use if I were to return to make use of the public observation telescopes. As I didn't stay at the hotel. I am unable to comment on further facilities. The fee was small, 5 leva each. ( about £2 ) They need a group of 6, but as the fee was minimal, we doubled it each and they took our group of 3.

The Biggest observatory on tha Balkan peninsula
Tours are every one hour with groups of min. 4 pers. There is lift to the last floor where the big telescope is located. An astronomist explains about the observatory and the telescope and the lecture takes about 25-30 minutes. Unfortunately there are no observations with the telescope during daytime. Nighttime observations can be booked in addition. It is allowed to take photos. There is an open balcony for a 360 degreees tour where you can enjoy wonderful views. The floor of the balcony is made of metal grate and looks dangerous, so it is not recommended for children and people who are afraid of heights. Anyway it is totaly safe to take the 360 degrees view tour where you can enjoy the wonderful Rodope mountain.
