Pamporovo Ski Resort, Smolyan Province, Bulgaria

4.5 (212 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Smolyan Ski & Snowboard Areas

Great Ski Resort for Families

After having tried various ski resorts in Bulgaria, I guess Pamporovo is the best one specially for families with small kids specially. Having slopes from a range of Green to Black, we have spent a magnificient week with good weather and fair snow amount supported with artificial snow unfortunately. Mechanical equipments are quite old but working good. Ease of access to slopes is the best issue compared to other Bulgarian resorts.

    Very pleasantly surprised
Having been to Avoriaz twice I wasn't expecting much from Pamporovo given that it is a small ski area with only ten runs most of which are marketed as beginner runs. I was snowboarding and we got the holiday cheap at 450 for a five night stay, including lessons and ski hire. The runs are suitable for beginners but even skiers with a bit more experience will appreciate the runs. We met in with a very friendly instructor on the last day called Robo, and although we had not booked in, he showed us a few tips and tricks to match our ability and took us down to show us where we could leave our equipment at the resort. Having been too many European countries I have to say the Bulgarians are up there with the most welcoming and friendly people I have met. This would be an ideal place to learn or even as an extra trip alongside your main ski trip. Obviously it doesn't have the variety france has but it is also half the price. I would definitely return here when my daughter is old enough to ski for her to learn here.
