Not properly maintained Museum

Visited National Museum with my friends but was very disappointed to see the condition there. The halls smell very bad, most of the items seems fake and there was no proper guide. The air conditions were installed but not working. It is not allowed to take pictures inside the hall, but there was a guy who appears to us and said that if we cooperate ;-) he will let us take the pictures, we refused his help and continued our trip (without photos). But the trip was very disappointing, one thing that was good was the lawn outside the museum, it has grass and is nicely maintained. The entry fee is 20 rupees, but if government maintain and increase the standard of museum, I think people will not hesitate to pay a higher fee.

Excellent Quran and coins collection in National Museum of Karachi
I am born and raised in Karachi and one of my earliest memory of my childhood is the visit of national Museum Karachi few decades ago with my father and mother. After a long break I visited the museum again in July 2011 when I went to Karachi from Malaysia. This museum was built in 1950's and the old antiques were transferred from Frere Hall. After visiting many classical museums of the world including, London, Milan, Paris, Istanbul and Cairo I realized that its far too small and the quality of Karachi museum is no where closer to those great museums. Nevertheless, I found two amazingly excellent units in the museum; large collections of copies of the antique Quran (The Islam's holy book and the word of Allah) which have been written by hands in very old days with beautiful calligraphy. Secondly, the coins of different dynasties of India Pakistan sub-scontinent from Mughal era to as old as Early Arab time in Sindh. The museum is conveniently located in the heart of business center of Karachi at Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, the neighboring buildings are historical and majestically grand DJ College, NED University old campus and Sindh Muslim Law College. If any one of you who are staying in Hotel Sheraton, Hotel Marriot or Pearl Continental the distance is about 2 to 4 kilometers and can be reached to the museum site by a rented car with 10 to 20 minutes. The two sections of the museum can easily be seen in one hour. The museum should be visited during the day time. Photography inside the museum is not allowed but a permission may be obtained. The visit to the Karachi National Museum will be beneficial due to these two very nice collections and I advise to go and see yourself. In Karachi there is a Pakistan Airforce Museum at Shara-e-Faisal and Pakistan Navy Museum, Karsaz Road; both museum are worthy enough to be visited. They have been designed on lines of Imperial War Museum of London but the standard is not as high as Imperial museum. If the Museum is properly managed and administered by Museum expert marketing consultants it should be highly successful and profitable due to its location and large property including large historical Burns Garden.

    Karachi Deserves Better Museum
The basic objective of establishing the National Museum was to collect, preserve, study, and exhibit the records of the cultural history of Pakistan and to promote a learned insight into the personality of its people.
