Paradise on earth

Fantastic place. Is the hidden germ of north Albania, a must visit during the summer. We took a boat from Koman lake meeting point and within one hour sailing we reached the Shala River. The water is crystal but very cold. The restaurant has simple food like meat, fish and salads but tasty anyway. i highly recommend this place to visit, if travelling in couple ore with friends.

One day trip to Shala river beach.
Perfect place for one day trip. You can take a swim in cold and very clear water of Shala river than take a sunbath on one of many stone islands, there are restaurants and hotels if you plan to stay longer. You can get there by boat from Komani it takes ca 1 hour trip on Komani lake.

Amazingly beautiful spot, worth the trip.
This is a river canyon off Koman lake. From Tirana it is a 2-3 hour drive to the ferry terminal. The drive goes through some great countryside. Worth taking your time if you can. The ferry is chaotic. Difficult to park meaning many walk through a long tunnel. See if you can be dropped off if you can. Once on a boat, again the views are magnificent. A lovely 1.5 hour trip lake and mountains. The arrival to Shala is a surprise. It is perhaps like "The Beach" from the book/film. The water is crystal clear, the surrounding mountains green and imposing. There is a beach bar with live music. A few beds and umbrellas are available (but only a few) and some water sport stuff for hire (kayak). There are a couple of places to stay with limited rooms and you can also camp. In my view well worth the overnight stay. Food and room are decent and prices very reasonable. More importantly, you get to enjoy the place in the evening and morning when quiet. No telephone signal wifi - so enjoy the nature and company ! During the middle of the day there are a lot of daytrippers - it can get busy. The water is incredibly inviting and good enough to drink perhaps. However, it is very cold ! Didnt stop me swimming though. You can hike around if you are interested but not sure whether there are marked trails. Better go with someone who knows their way. A special place. Hope it stays that way. Everyone needs to help keep the place clean and not throw their rubbish.
