Wild and beautiful

The area is spectacular but beware. There are no shops, no lodgings and the roads are terrible. I drove through the area to the lake with a standard car which is manageable but you are occasionally scraping the underside of the car. The area is very dosed and there is no tourist infrastructure. You need to bring all gear with you. Scenery and bird watching both excellent.

Roughin' it and lovin' it
Stopped by Lake Arpi on our way from Gyumri to Georgia, it was a bit out of our way but we had heard it was beautiful so we had to see it. It is very wild as it is a nature preserve so with our 4x4 it was okay going in and out. It’s an excellent place for bird watching but make sure you bring all your gear with you and take any rubbish with you as well. A pristine place to visit if you have the time.
