Interesting museum for Japanese, quite hard for foreigners
I went to this museum not knowing what to expect. I had heard about the Saka no Ue no Kumo novel and I know it is something Matsuyama is very proud of. With this knowledge it seemed an interesting activity to pursue. The museum itself is a modern building which is designed very nicely. The architecture of the building is very impressive and the views from out of the museum are quite astonishing as well. The collection it self is quite interesting, including old letters, paintings, books and photos. For the visitor that doesn't speak Japanese the museum can be experienced as a bit boring. Although the paintings and other old objects are quite interesting, it is hard to find out about the background story since hardly anything is in English. It is the perfect activity on a rainy day when someone is staying for a longer stay in Matsuyama. Short stay visitors better make better use of their time by going to the main attractions of Matsuyama.

Not for those who cannot understand Nihongo and not familiar with novel
This museum is about the novel Saka no Ue no Kumo, inspired by true to life stories turned into an NHK drama. So it might be a boring attraction for those who are unfamiliar with it, especially with foreigners. There are exhibits though that show a bit of Matsuyama's history and they can be somehow interesting. English audio translations are available at the front desk at 150 yen.
