A neat temple but optional

I couldn't make it a must see but if you have time, and if you are interested in wood carving architecture, then you can visit this place. If you have seen other temples in Pingyao like Shuanglin Temple, Zengkuo Temple, and Temple of City God, then this is similar. The wooden carving is key point, highlight of the temple. 30 minutes at most should be sufficient.

    Beware of incense/blessing scam
In one of the main buildings of the temple, a monk gave our kids (6 and 8 years old) incense sticks and wanted to show them how to pray. Then they took us to a corner of the room where another monk was doing "blessings", he said a prayer above our heads "for good luck" and then wanted us to pay 100 yuans, showing us the book with the name of other foreigners who had paid between 100 and 500 yuans. It all went very fast and we didn't realize what was happening. They were VERY insisting for the money. We felt like they used the kids to trick us. There was no indication of amount to pay or services offered. They never asked for our advice. It ruined our visit of that beautiful temple.

    Scam. Avoid
Was also caught out by this scam. The two "monks" tried to get 200 yuan off us, they got 100 each in the end, they were very insistent. As the previous reviewers said, the scam works very quickly, keeping you off balance, and their English is quite proficient. They're based in the main building in the centre of the complex, so can be avoided. But it's probably better to boycott the whole temple, might focus the authorities minds on getting rid of these jokers
