Ancient streets

All the streets insides Pingyao ancient city are fascinating and worth a stroll, either during the day or at night. They are always busy, always full of people and the atmosphere is always exciting. Every shop front is a museum in itself and worth a photo stop. Strolling the streets is free, but you will need the Pingayo ancient own ticket to stop in any of the museums or temples en route.

    The part that is open is really fun, but close to half is currently under construction
    This is a super fun, lively street that is great for buying souvenirs and for people-watching. It has a lot of good restaurants, massage places, a place to get a fish foot bath, etc. However, be aware that about half is under construction, and in a significant portion of that everything is closed. I'd say at least 30% of Pingyao is under construction right now, which has led to a lot of trouble and disappointment on my trip. I'd recommend delaying any trip here for at least six months.

    Walk through history
    These are the main streets in Pingyao. There are tons of shops, restaurants, and museums along the road. If you want to go into the museum you'll need to buy the city ticket. What I liked is people were not pushing you to shop or buy from them like you see in other parts of China.
