Nice place and must to see.
I visit Datong city wall November 2020 and it was very pleasant experience. Basically just me and my friend there. No rush no crowd just enjoyable wandring around wall. City wall itself is well rebuild and top of it can see old datong as well as new part of Datong. Rent bike is also available and recommed if want to see whole wall.

Take you back in time
Standing on this wall, i cant help but imagine rows of archer, guns, cannons, and soldier trying to defend the city from invaders... such a gigantic and majestic wall, worth visiting. the view from the top is impressive as well. there are alot of wooden towers, apparently built using authentic traditional material and technique, worth checking as well.

Good views of Old & New Datong city & Fun on Tandum bike
We first walked a shorter area to take photos of the old structures & different city views for 1st hour. We then rented a tandum bike ( for 2 ) and rode completely around the wall. The basic rental price allowed 90 minutes . We are seniors and haven't rode a bike for a decade. We only took about 1.2 hours as we did only a few stops for photos. It was less expensive this way.
