    Quaint and charming water town
Pleasant stroll through the water town. We were there in winter, so it was not too crowded. It's pretty small, so about 2-3 hours slow stroll is sufficient to cover the whole area. Note that there are ticket gantries at the entrance, but you do not need a ticket to enter the area. Tickets are required only at the attractions. Full of eateries and snacks/street food stalls.

    Very beautiful water town
This area can be reached via the Shanghai Metro system, takes about 1.5 hours from the center of Shanghai. Visiting outside of the busy season does add to the advantage that it is not too crowded. There are lots of nice alleys and beautiful water ways and bridges. It is very similar to (but on a bigger scale) to Hoi An. The place seems to be famous for stewed meats and glutinous rice dumplings. Other than that, there are lots of small stores along the different alleys. There are also lots of restaurants/cafe where you can enjoy food and drinks - however as expected a lot of them charges exhorbitant touristic prices (about 4-5 x than what you will normally pay elsewhere). Other than that, it is very well worth visiting and spend time to walk around.
