Spring Festival Lantern show. It gets busy!
Four days before spring festival, I should have known it would get crowded so only I am to blame for that. When we got there and entered it didn't seem too bad but pretty soon there was a massive crowd that seemed to be all headed in one direction. This was because there was a one-way-system to control the flow of the pedestrians. Not knowing this We ended up going against the crowd until we got to a barrier where the baoan stopped us going any further. Even when we did realize that we had to go a certain direction it was hard to work our where that was as each... (let's call them alleyways) each alleyway looked very similar. It wasn't unpleasant but by the time we got to the bridge there was easily 500 people ahead of us so we took the route that went past that area meaning we didn't get a decent view of that.

beautiful setting
I appreciated the architecture of the rooms and buildings, and the beautiful setting of the gardens. The entry price is quite cheap, but beware that there are stores within the gardens where the salespeople can be a bit pushy. A firm "no thank you" was all I needed, but it did put a small tarnish on the experience. I highly recommend paying the cheap entry fee to visit the City God Temple nearby; it's very impressive (but remember it's an active worship site, so don't be one of those ugly tourists who takes photos of the shrines, statues, and worshippers; how would you feel if some jeans-clad tourist who didn't speak your language barged into your church/mosque/synagogue/temple and started snapping photos of the clergy and you in the middle of services?).
